ExpéKa

Description

ExpéKa is a bridge between Guadeloupe and Martinique on a shared history, a similar journey around the theme of negritude in its broadest sense.
Gwoka was born during slavery in the Caribbean and has its origins in the African music sung and played by the slaves of the old plantations. For four centuries, the Ka drum has accompanied lewoz evenings, as well as the demands of the Antilleans.
Casey, daughter of Martiniquais born and raised in France, chose rap to claim her Antillean culture and denounce the ills of her generation. Célia Wa is a committed Guadeloupean flutist and singer, a notable artist of the new "soul & ka" generation and a leader of projects in which she highlights the ills of our society.
Under the direction of Sonny Troupé, a virtuoso percussionist and composer from Guadeloupe, whose ka drum remains the primary instrument, and alongside exceptional musicians from Guadeloupe and Martinique whose eclecticism is their strength, namely Didier Davidas on keyboards, Stéphane Castry on bass, and Olivier Juste on ka drum, they form the group ExpéKa where everyone finds themselves in this gray area where anything is possible.
