Exits Into A Corridor

Description

Recorded over two days in Brooklyn in January 2018, Exits Into a Corridor introduces us to the new American-Norwegian "supergroup" Exoterm, which plays here the compositions of bassist Rune Nergaard - a blend of improvisations that are both thrashy (free) and determined, along with electronic and ethereal soundscapes. Nergaard's hard-hitting, muscular bass riffs and the explosive phrasing of saxophonist Kristoffer Berre Alberts are complemented by the complex and varied musical personalities of drummer Jim Black and guitarist Nels Cline - two legends of the alternative and underground scenes. This is a "big gumbo" of sounds; a mix of bold and subversive influences and genres, including jazz, rock, and improvised music. Nels Cline has been the guitarist for the band Wilco since 2004 and has played in numerous jazz, rock, and avant-garde formations over the past 40 years. A prominent figure in American jazz and improvised music since working with Dave Douglas and Tim Berne in the 90s, Jim Black plays drums like few of his peers. The band AlasNoAxis, which he founded in 2000, has released 6 albums. In addition to having already collaborated with Rune Nergaard in a wide variety of projects, Kristoffer Berre Alberts plays with the band Cortex, Paal Nilssen Love's Large Unit, and Starlite Motel, the octet of Dag Magnus Narvesen.
