An album in duo resulting from a live performance based on a meticulous mutual observation of each musician's play and setup: the turntables, the electronic machines, and the vast sound bank of ErikM; and the mechanical orchestra and the range of acoustic instruments of Pierre Bastien. Jean Dubuffet used to define his music as something disorderly and filthy. But here, it's a Dubuffet back from a long journey in Africa, with enchanting rhythms that lead to trance states, revisited by the UK Drill of ErikM. 'With one exception, this record is the recording of a concert given at Ateliers Claus in Brussels in March 2024. It was preceded by three short hours of improvisation the day before and the day before that, during which ErikM and I made a series of careful observations of our respective play.
It must be said that neither of us skimped on transporting a few cases, the contents of which would have allowed us to play several concerts in a row without ever repeating ourselves. Erik had brought his turntables to Brussels, along with sophisticated electronic machines, accompanied by a practically infinite sound bank. For my part, I had both a mechanical orchestra and a range of acoustic instruments. In two sessions, we eliminated the superfluous and the ineffective. On the night of the concert, it was through careful observation – of each sound, of each direction taken by either one, of each intention, of each pause – that we composed this album in the moment: vigilant and scrutinizing, like the pairs of eyes on the cover of this album.'
