Après deux albums remarqués par la critique grâce notamment à un style très personnel, le jeune pianiste américain Eric Lu, grand vainqueur du prestigieux concours international de Leeds 2018, signe là son troisième enregistrement pour Warner Classics. Un album consacré à Schubert comprenant deux sonates pour piano D.784 & D.959 et l'Allegretto D.915. Le "poète du piano", Eric Lu, à propos de l'œuvre tardive de Schubert: "I love Schubert," writes pianist Eric Lu. "It's hard to describe what his music means to me. He was the ultimate artist, in the purest sense of the term. Late in his life, with death in sight and all his hopes and dreams shattered, he continued to create masterpiece after masterpiece. L'album d'Eric Lu rassemble deux de ses plus grandes sonates - D. 784 en la mineur, écrite en 1823, et D. 959 en la majeur, écrite en 1828, dernière année de la courte vie du compositeur. Ils sont complétés par l'Allegretto en ut mineur D 915 de 1827. Lorsqu'Eric Lu a remporté le Concours international de piano de Leeds en 2018, The Guardian l'a salué comme "one of the most exciting talents in a long time, a true poet of the piano." Ces mots ont été confirmés par les éloges de la critique pour son premier album Warner Classics, un programme mettant en vedette Chopin, Schumann et Brahms. International Piano Magazine l'a trouvé "truly magical," tandis que le journal musical américain Fanfare a accueilli un "gifted musician who explores the depths of the piano literature with poetic delicacy and imagination."
