Mozart's piano concertos form an exceptional and unique set in the history of music: from the 9th to the 27th, all appear as definitive masterpieces. According to H. C. Robbins Landon, a leading expert on the composer, "it is above all the immense stylistic diversity that places Mozart's piano concertos above and beyond those of his contemporaries." But these scores also share the commonality of being at the crossroads of influences that powerfully shape them: that of the symphony, which encourages Mozart to enrich them orchestrally; that of imperial harmony music, which stimulates the role of the winds; and that of opera, which provides types of writing and leads the composer to treat the dialogue between the piano and the orchestra as if they were characters. In this new recording, Éric Le Sage is joined by the Gävle Symfoniorkester to perform the 17th and 24th piano concertos by the Salzburg composer.
