A discovery of a Finnish composer, Bernhard Henrik Crusell, and his current interpreter, Eric Hoeprich, a great specialist in historical clarinets. Thanks to his exceptional talent as a clarinetist, composer Bernhard Henrik Crusell worked his entire life in Stockholm, the Venice of the North, within the Court Orchestra. His works for clarinet (which include three concertos) were highly appreciated in the musical circuits of Europe in the early 19th century. Eric Hoeprich, principal clarinetist of the Orchestre du XVIIIe Siècle since its founding, has specialized in the interpretation of historical clarinets and possesses a magnificent collection of instruments from the 18th and 19th centuries. In this new recording of Crusell's Quartets that we present here, Hoeprich and the members of the London Haydn Quartet play on magnificent historical instruments, with a warm, transparent, and infinitely nuanced sound.
