ERIC HEIDSIECK IS ONE OF OUR GREAT FRENCH PIANISTS. COMPLETE BOX SET OF HIS EMI AND HMV RECORDINGS. Pianist Eric Heidsieck, born in Reims in 1936, studied with the French masters Marcel Ciampi and Alfred Cortot, before meeting Wilhelm Kempff to deepen his understanding of Beethoven's music. Throughout his career, he has given more than 2,000 concerts around the world, particularly in Japan where he has undertaken several tours, and has performed notably in duo with his wife Tania (the couple celebrates their Golden Wedding Anniversary this year 2020) and with cellist Paul Tortelier. His distinguished interpretation of the complete 'Sonatas' by Beethoven, dating from the late 60s and early 70s, is complemented here by a previously unreleased recording from 1958 of the 'Hammerklavier Sonata'. This complete box set of 27 CDs of his recordings, made for the Voice of His Master and EMI Classics between 1957 and 1974, offers nearly a third of previously unreleased material on CD (works by Beethoven, Handel, Hindemith, Couperin, Debussy, Russel, and Ravel). A tribute as welcome as it is exciting to one of our greatest French pianists.
