Since its formation in 2015, Equipe de Foot has been a playground for Alex (vocals-guitar) and Michaël (vocals-drums), where nothing is off-limits: to be two and sound like ten, to write cathartic songs combining spontaneity and complexity, noise and pop, garage and lo-fi, to assert the naturally diverse influences that shaped the duo: from Nirvana to the Beatles, from Blur to The Breeders, from Sparklehorse to Fidlar. Soon spotted by Odezenne during a concert, Equipe de Foot opened for them in France, Belgium, England, and Switzerland in the fall of 2016. It was a meeting and an experience that deeply marked Alex and Michaël, as both bands share the same uncompromising stance regarding their independence, creative freedom, and need for sincerity. In the summer of 2019, they began composing their third album. Their ambition was to reach a new level in terms of composition and songwriting, as well as production. The year 2020 and their forced separation due to the health crisis provided an opportunity to test new ways of composing and exchanging ideas. The composition of Geranium spanned almost 18 months, between lockdowns and residency periods. By the end of 2020, Alex and Michaël had nearly two hours of demos and selected 11 tracks that would make up their new album. A record that is more like them than ever before. More free, more handcrafted, more open, more prolific, more intimate, both more polished and more direct. After a long search, Alex and Michaël chose to produce the album with Johannes Buff at the Shorebreaker Studio in Tarnos. Johannes has worked as a sound engineer in various studios in Berlin, New York, and Lyon, with artists ranging from rock, pop, and folk, such as Sonic Youth, The Drones, Zombie Zombie, and Botibol. His vision for Geranium aligned with that of Equipe de Foot, while allowing the duo to fully realize their intentions!
