Ensemble Molière presents a rich and varied selection of French baroque music to accompany the different moments of the day of Louis XIV, known as the Sun King. What better way to wake up than to be cradled by the overture of Les Arts Florissants by Charpentier? The King's day continues with an excerpt from Phaëton by Lully for the sunrise, a bit of Couperin, a Symphony for the King's suppers by Lalande to accompany dinner, dancing music from the Ballet Royal de la Nuit, and a suite from the Trios for the King's sunset by Marais to accompany the sunset. Louis XIV decided to embody the sun, a manifestation of the god Apollo on earth and the ultimate power giving life to all things. This album re-imagines a day in the life of one of the most dazzling royal figures of the baroque era.
