For its second recording with Cypres, the Kheops ensemble immerses us in works that highlight the clarinet, an instrument whose expressive possibilities fascinated the most original creators of the Habsburg capital at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Brahms' Trio op. 114, dominated by autumnal colors, is a late-life work imbued with a sense of renunciation and resignation. The Four Pieces op. 5, dedicated to the master Schönberg, exude a striking expressiveness, one that Berg has always managed to preserve throughout all his explorations. In his Trio op. 3, Zemlinsky, who does not hide his admiration for op. 114, develops an intense and tumultuous harmonic universe that marks the generational leap from Brahms. The Kheops ensemble, a variable formation blending winds and strings under the banner of individual virtuosity serving the collective, shines with maturity and proudly represents the colors of chamber music in Belgium.
