Liszt: Septem Sacramenta

Description

Liszt combined the whirlwinds of a virtuoso life traveling to the four corners of Europe with a deep attachment to the Catholic faith and the Church. While his brilliant technique and fiery interpretations made him an undisputed virtuoso, his sacred music, for which he was less known, represented to him what he held most dear. He particularly invested in this repertoire starting in 1856, and he worked to reform religious music in order to give it a prominent place, as it must be capable of conveying the divine message and mystery. His discourse became more refined but also profoundly innovative, with numerous linguistic peculiarities and harmonic boldness. Dominique Vellard turns his gaze towards the lesser-known works of this period, including the Septem sacramenta and the Pater noster, which exude the same serenity, the same feeling of peace and light.
