Trio Sonatas

Created 15 years ago by violinist Johann Pramsohler, Ensemble Diderot has become an important voice in European Baroque music. Returning to trio sonatas for this celebration, the ensemble highlights the rich and subtle music of Bach's disciples, between the Baroque and the emerging Classical period. For the 15th anniversary of Ensemble Diderot, and after recent recording projects dedicated to the concerto and chamber music in larger ensembles, Johannes Pramsohler and his colleagues return to their favorite repertoire: the trio sonata. The inventiveness of two illustrious pupils of Bach brought together in this project, Johann Gottlieb Goldberg and Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, offers them a playground where expressiveness is combined with supple virtuosity. Here, the four sonatas for two violins and basso continuo by Goldberg deserve their place at the center of the repertoire: they rank among the greatest in terms of their musical content, invention, and finesse of composition!
