Chants Séfarades

Description

Dreaming and wishing to share this dream with the listener, seeking to relive today the probable world of a gathering of musicians from medieval Spain, in the Caliphate of Córdoba or later at the court of the wise King Alfonso X of Castile and León, where the musicians of the three cultures worked in close contact, we approach these songs drawn by the beauty of the texts that we perform in the language of Cervantes, Calderón or Lorca. These melodies with evocative intervals attract us by the color of the Castilian language, full of sonority, and by the meter of an archaism filled with mystery, with varied accents, contrasting with a thematic content of philosophical depth, sometimes of immense modernity. They speak to us of ourselves, of our joys and sorrows today. And perhaps we approach these songs of love and life simply with the desire to bring, in our own way, back to life these songs composed by the Sephardim, in the pure vein of the songs of the troubairitz and the troubadours of courtly love, the chansons de toile of the trouvères. We are certain that this program, in addition to a fascinating musicological research, is, like others and for others, a search for our confused common roots. Francisco Orozco
