The great Italian pianist Enrico Pieranunzi has recorded over fifty albums to date, during a career that began in the distant 1970s, including collaborations with illustrious artists such as Chet Baker, Charlie Haden, Paul Motian, and Jim Hall. Among his albums, several of which have now been released on the CAM JAZZ label, only a few possess the same austere personality as The Extra Something, recorded live at the legendary Village Vanguard jazz club in New York. Accompanied by a formidable group, Pieranunzi combines the essential values of jazz with a conception of structure and order that finds its roots in classical music, all while infused with a strong sense of freedom.
