"During our research and deciphering in preparation for the recording of this CD, we discovered the collection of melodies Les Contes mystiques based on texts by the poet and playwright Stéphan Bordèse (1847-1919) and set to music by 12 prominent musical figures: Augusta Holmès, Edmond Diet, Théodore Dubois, Gabriel Fauré, Charles Lecocq, Charles Lenepveu, Henri Maréchal, Jules Massenet, Emile Paladilhe, Camille Saint-Saëns, Pauline Viardot, and Charles-Marie Widor, all of whom are well-known and recognized: composers, educators, directors of conservatories or lyric institutions, organists, conductors, singers... While Gabriel Fauré's melody En Prière has become a "hit," the other melodies, equally moving, speak to us of the childhood of Christ and seem inspired by scenes from the apocryphal gospels."
