Description

EMPIRE OF SOUND was born from the meeting between MC MATTIC (USA) and the composer and pianist JUKE (FR), two artists who discovered many affinities through their keen knowledge of Afro-American music, and who share the same desire to bring hip-hop to life with a "real jazz-band". MATTIC, originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, honed his skills across the Atlantic. He laid down his first flows on cassette, then joined the group "TheOthers" with whom he released his first album. Later, he decided to settle in France and began a long series of collaborations, notably with WaxTailor. JUKE, for his part, lent his keyboards and handled arrangements on many projects, but, tired of working for others, decided to compose in a style of his own, closer to his roots and to the music he loves. He then contacted Mattic, who immediately agreed to join him. A very strong bond formed between them, driven by the shared desire to have their own universe, and by an endless thirst for creation. Empire of Sound came to life. The duo was immediately joined by Romain Joutard (drums), Julien Herné (bass), Benoît Medrykowski (guitar) and Lucas Saint-Cricq (saxophone, flute, DJ), musicians who were also nurtured by and deeply steeped in "Soul music". In the lineage of US jazz hip-hop and notably The Roots, Robert Glasper Experiment or RH Factor, EMPIRE OF SOUND fully intends to wake up the European Rap scene, blending rich harmonies with a powerful groove, and seasoning the whole with carefully crafted lyrics. Their first album "Out Of The Norm" is released with the participation of many prestigious guests, all brought to life in images by a first video directed by Jessy Nottola, for the track Out of the norm. The album, at once very live and very arranged, recorded in pure analog, surprises with the quality and warmth of the "Empire Of Sound" audio. The group can already claim a marked, demanding sonic and visual identity.
