Emmanuelle Haïm, a specialist in the Baroque "with an instinct for the crucial balance between energy and eloquence" (New York Times), conducts the orchestra and singers of her ensemble Le Concert d'Astrée in choral works by three 18th-century French composers: Rameau, Campra and Mondonville. The program, which illustrates the passage from sorrow to joy and from darkness to light, was recorded in the splendid Chapelle Royale of the Château de Versailles. When Emmanuelle Haïm, Le Concert d'Astrée and the soloists featured on this recording performed the three works in Dijon, Rameau's birthplace, Forum Opéra - noting that Haïm's conducting "excelled as much in its vigor as in its poetry" - described "a concert from which one emerged with a profound feeling of happiness".
