Le livre / Jaera

Description

The discographic career of the astonishing Emmanuel Tugny, writer, philosopher, journalist, translator, and former diplomat, continues with Le Livre, a double LP accompanied by a CD of luxurious "Floydian" guitar experiments, following that perfectly singular path which makes the "dandy punk" from Saint-Malo one of the most enigmatic and seductive figures on the French pop-rock scene. We had left Tugny on a few disconcerting and precious electric albums dedicated to French poets, Corbière, Scève, Gautier, Nouveau: now he returns to song with a collection of 14 tracks heated to white-hot, magnificently orchestrated, both tense and profuse, where the acidic contrast between the theme of personal losses and the vital energy of rock dominates. Two splendid covers, the traditional Sometimes I feel like a motherless child and Lucio Battisti's E penso a te, punctuate a series of songs where the harshness of an authentically rock guitar-bass-drums section flirts with subtle arrangements of flute, brass, or vintage keyboards. Released by the Italians at Saar records, Le Livre promises its listener to experience the shock of the first listen and to see, over time, that shock give way to an approach ever renewed by the richness of the universe it builds and offers.
