Description

La mezzo-soprano canadienne Emily d'Angelo, returns with a new album, titled, Enargeia. For her opus, the artist drew inspiration from Hildegard von Bingen, whose music she presents here in new arrangements by the great American composers Missy Mazzoli and Sarah Kirkland Snider. It also features new compositions by Mazzoli and Kirkland Snider, as well as two works by Hildur Guðnadóttir, Oscar winner for her original music for the series Chernobyl. The album is based on the Hellenistic concept of enargeia, "quality of extreme vividness, brilliance, or presence," the spirit of which can be found in the music of each composer and in the texts conveyed by sound waves. Each piece is a sonic journey, each track emerging from the previous one, with the listener being guided through a progression, a cohesive and exploratory listening experience.
