Like their first recording Beethoven for Three - Symphonies No. 2 and No. 5 - this recording challenges the traditional boundary between chamber repertoire and orchestral repertoire to offer the listener two very different facets of the composer using the same three voices. In the piano trio in C minor, we hear Beethoven's brilliant exploration of the essential expressive capabilities of the three instruments; in the "Pastoral," lovingly reimagined for the trio by Shai Wosner, the piano, violin, and cello transcend their own identity to represent the infinite creativity of the natural world, becoming in turn a bird, a stream, and a storm.
