"Ellengæst" has the difficult task of following up the famous "Great Escape" from 2018. Although this new album does not try to sound like its illustrious predecessor, the particular circumstances of its creation would have prevented it anyway... On the first day of recording, CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX suddenly found themselves without a singer or keyboardist. While this kind of setback would sound the death knell for most bands, band leader Justin Greaves took the opportunity to draw on his vast network of musician friends. Very quickly, several prominent guests responded and lent their vocal talents to "Ellengæst": Vincent Cavanagh from ANATHEMA, Kristian "Gaahl" Espedal from GAAHLS WYRD, Ryan Patterson (COLISEUM, FOTOCRIME, and occasional live bassist for CBP), British scene's young hopeful Suzie Stapleton, as well as Jonathan Hultén from TRIBULATION.
