The day before her appearance at the Konserthuset in Stockholm to record what would become The Stockholm Concert, 1966 — the live album from Pablo Records now regarded as one of the landmark documents of her later career — Ella Fitzgerald gave two concerts at the Falkoner Theatre in Copenhagen. Like many African American jazz musicians of her generation, Ella felt at home in Denmark, a country where she found a level of respect often denied to her in the United States. Her ease in her adopted country was undeniable as she took the stage at the Falkoner Theatre that Sunday night. For the very first time, these performances are now available on record. Presented with the full support of the Ella Fitzgerald estate, they reveal a joyful and surprisingly vibrant addition to her recorded legacy.
