Alongside an exceptional cast of soloists, they brought to life Meyerbeer's visionary historical drama, The Prophet. Based on a true story, the libretto tells that in 1500, a tavern keeper converted to Anabaptism becomes a preacher in Münster and establishes a tyrannical regime, renaming the city Jerusalem and proclaiming himself king. Add to this a fighting wife and the most formidable maternal figure ever represented on an opera stage! The Prophet is the quintessence of grand opera, a spectacular work: it made the Paris Opera the leading stage in Europe in its time! An acclaimed version in 2023, both by the audience and by critics!
