Lost Ships

With this new record, the repertoire of love and exile songs that Elina Duni and Rob Luft initiated in 2017 at the time of their meeting takes on a new dimension. Along the way, the Swiss-Albanian singer and the British guitarist have significantly expanded the dimensions of their duo by welcoming Swiss bugler Matthieu Michel and British percussionist and pianist Fred Thomas.
The migration crisis was already one of the main themes explored in Elina's album 'Partir'. It is central again, particularly in its ecological consequences. The influences of the record come from everywhere: “There are songs that refer to the past, with sounds drawn from Albanian and Mediterranean folklores, still vibrant today. But we also wanted to explore other musical traditions: there are timeless jazz ballads, French songs, American folk tunes…” In the end, with a wide range of musical sources and references, the album brings together traditional pieces and original compositions, including songs made famous by Frank Sinatra or Charles Aznavour. Lost Ships was recorded at Studios la Buissonne in the south of France in February 2020.
