Œuvres pour violon et piano

Description

Confirmed instrumentalists, Elena Lavrenov and Aurélie Gilmard defend with great warmth, charm and elegance the finest flower of the Belgian school of composition. This CD brings together choice pieces by Franck (Andantino quietoso), Ysaÿe (the sensitive Rêve d'enfant), Vieuxtemps and Marsick (two beautiful Rêveries), and de Bériot (an engaging Scène de Ballet). Baiwir’s dynamic first Sonata, the youngest of this prestigious lineage, is rooted in an avowed neo-classicism. This stylistically coherent program ends with a convincing Baiwir in the exercise of variation (we remember his two dazzling books on a Paganini motif). The Badineries sur un air de Grétry, a tribute from one Liégeois to another, prove to be a jewel of virtuosic distinction sprinkled with a very welcome touch of jazzy humor.
