With violinist Eldbjorg Hemsing and soprano Hannah Holgersson, they have recorded Hillborg's compositions: Liquid Marble, Kväll and Violin Concerto No. 2.Anders Hillborg has become one of the leading contemporary classical composers, with works commissioned and performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony, the Berlin Philharmonic, Carnegie Hall and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic. Among the musicians he has worked with are clarinetist Martin Frost, soprano Renée Fleming, violinist Lisa Batiashvili, violist Lawrence Power and renowned conductors such as Esa-Pekka Salonen, Alan Gilbert, Gustavo Dudamel and David Zinman.In the orchestral piece Liquid Marble, Hillborg experiments with extremes. The cascading sounds of the introduction, the rapid runs of strings and woodwinds, as well as an ecstatic ragtime episode are just a few of the components of the work. As in many other works, Hillborg wants to inspire listeners with a suggestive title. He explains: "Liquid Marble is a contradiction that, I hope, will evoke associations with the music.The work Kväll for violin, soprano and orchestra features elements of folk music.Hillborg's Violin Concerto No. 2 is a very energetic but also meditative work: ethereal sounds are punctuated by insistent calls from the orchestra and soloist. The music is often dreamy, but it also contains powerful and rhythmic sections.
