Cuban-American composer Tania León brought her bold and vibrant voice to the London Philharmonic Orchestra as composer-in-residence (2023-25) - creating groundbreaking works while mentoring our young LPO composers. Her evocative Horizons (1999) hypnotized audiences at its UK premiere, while Raíces (2024) – a lively fusion of Latin rhythms and jazz – explores León’s multicultural heritage. The Pulitzer Prize-winning Stride (2020) pays tribute to the legacy of American feminist pioneer Susan B. Anthony, blending Caribbean and orchestral traditions with electrifying energy. At the end of her residency, Pasajes (2025) painted a jubilant sonic portrait of León’s Cuban childhood, each piece propelling her as a defining voice in 21st-century orchestral music.
