Sonates appassionata

Description

Her piano playing already bears the mark of the three great pianists who shaped her and whose improbable synthesis she has managed to achieve: the panache of Martha Argerich, the musicality of Leon Fleisher, and the impeccable finish of Krystian Zimerman. Diapason “For this limited edition of Beethoven’s sonatas in Compiègne, I chose to record on my own Steinway, built in Hamburg in 1946. This piano is slightly smaller than the Steinway D model, which is the one most often used in concerts and recordings. Although the action and hammers of my piano are completely modern, it does not have the typical sound of today’s pianos, where the colors of the registers are quite uniform. What makes it unique is that each register has its own character and its own color, a little like the fortepianos of Beethoven’s time.” - Edna Stern, August 2014.
