Suave Bruta

Description

With 'Suave Bruta', Franco-Colombian double bassist and singer Ëda Diaz presents her debut album, featuring eleven tracks that combine traditional South American rhythms with ultra-creative electronic experiments. Halfway between a poetic astrological chart and an express bridge over the Atlantic, Suave Bruta offers a unique experience. - - Sweet or untamed? Organic or electronic? Euros or pesos? Not choosing is still a choice: Ëda Diaz knows this because she wants it all, and she makes no apologies for it! - - With Suave Bruta, the musician authentically reconciles the different parts of her identity, the rich and complementary fragments she has long considered opposites. French through her mother, Colombian through her father, Éléonore Diaz Arbelaez quickly learned to juggle between languages, cultures, rhythms, and ways of practicing music thanks to numerous back-and-forths between Paris and Medellín. For example, for over fifteen years, Ëda Diaz diligently studied classical piano at the Conservatoire de Boulogne Billancourt. But every summer, to the sound of the tiple and the clinking of small glasses of aguardiente in the patio of her family home in Medellín, her grandmother passed on to her the passion of Carlos Gardel's tangos, the romance of boleros, the joy of bambucos, and a whole repertoire of popular songs from the great traditions of South American music. From then on, bringing the two continents together became Ëda Diaz's obsession. But how to do it? How to position herself? How to be herself? Since she feels neither the soul of a concert artist nor that of a folklorist, Ëda Diaz turns to psychedelic rock! A sidestep that allows her to free herself from her academic complexes, write her first lyrics, and find her voice. The true epiphany, finally, takes the form of a double bass, an obvious choice for Ëda Diaz, who was raised on the finest tumbaos of salsa. At home on repeat: Buena Vista Social Club, Omara Portuondo, and Joe Arroyo, the most charismatic of all Colombian salsa singers. One of his great classics, 'Suave Bruta', actually gives its name to Ëda Diaz's first album, now at peace with her heritage, her identity, her tastes, and her time. - - Halfway between a poetic astrological chart and an express bridge over the Atlantic, Suave Bruta thus offers a unique experience.
