At 88 years old, Ghanaian highlife and afrobeat pioneer Ebo Taylor traveled to the United States for the first time to perform as part of the now-iconic Jazz Is Dead concert series. It was on this occasion that Ebo recorded a psychedelic afrobeat album alongside Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad. The swirling brass and gritty guitars heard on Ebo Taylor JID022 evoke the groundbreaking recordings of the 70s that made him one of the most prolific and revolutionary African artists of all time. Recorded at Adrian Younge's Linear Labs studio, this album features polyrhythmic percussion and twangy, fuzzed-out guitars that prove rhythm is key.
