Area Silenzio is the debut album by the French band eat-girls, and it is both unsettling and disturbing. For the past three years, the Lyon trio has been crafting their songs like tiny inner worlds, with the patience and precision of an entomologist — and they have traveled across France and Europe to see them come to life for a moment. It is this back-and-forth that has shaped these ten tracks, true electronic madrigals played on a haunted Victrola, oscillating between languorous dub and feral drum machines. On stage, the band distills the ephemeral and the elusive. There is something otherworldly about these three, an invisible connection when their voices intertwine and surrender to take flight, each in their own way. They have opened for Thalia Zedek, EXEK, The Young Gods, to name just a few. It is this enigmatic nature that allows them to feel at ease in front of a wide variety of audiences: no-wave disco rhythms, post-punk bass, folk accents, and synthesizers, always with a care for melody and an infectious chorus.
