Description

On his latest album Sick !, Earl Sweatshirt is clairvoyant; self-aware and aware of his surroundings. Having become a father, he is responsible for another life besides his own. This altruism is reflected throughout the album’s 10 tracks. Beyond newfound fatherhood, Thebe Kgositsile looks at a world burning from the ground up because of police killing Black people, riots, and Covid-19 placing society in quarantine over the past two years. The world has changed and he has changed with it, but neither will ever be the same again. For the first time, he steps out of the darkness that has hidden him throughout his career. He steps out of his comfort zone, peeling back the layers of his enigmatic lyrics to expose his wound. Earl closes the door on nearly a decade of guilt, using his new album as a vehicle for acceptance.
