WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE

Description

Over the past 17 years, Dumpstaphunk has earned the title of New Orleans' most renowned live powerhouse of the new generation, the kind of band whose shows attract legendary sit-ins. Shorty, Hall, Daniels, Alex Wasily, Ryan Nyther, drummer Devin Trusclair, cousins Ivan and Ian Neville have built on New Orleans' iconic legacy by transforming Dumpstaphunk into one of the city's leading 21st-century funk-fusion exporters, as evidenced by their July 2019 opening concert for the Rolling Stones in their home stadium, the Superdome. Modernizing and reinvigorating the Neville family groove has been one of Dumpstaphunk's driving forces since the band spontaneously formed at Jazz Fest in 2003. Daniels and Hall both played with the Neville Brothers for years, but the band was never overshadowed by the family. For his part, Ian Neville could never have predicted he'd still be in the same band 17 years later, but the guitarist could feel the band's historical weight from the start. The combo's blend of classic and modern influences can be heard through the festive mix of R&B, funk, rock, swamp-pop, and blues. "Where Do We Go From Here" is perhaps the best proof yet of Dumpstaphunk's ability to strengthen and transform New Orleans' unique roots in combination with the deeper external musical and philosophical influences on which the band was founded.
