In the early years, Duke Jupiter played original Rock/R&B instrumentals, which showcased their distinctive dual lead guitar sound when Don Maracle joined the band in 1974. The band played clubs in the upstate New York area and gradually expanded their territory. With the release of Sweet Cheeks, their first album (1978), Duke began touring with national acts. Among the bands they toured with during their 13-year career were: ZZ Top, Stevie Ray Vaughan, David Bowie, Bob Seeger, Robert Palmer, BB King, Toto, Sea Level, Huey Lewis and the News, Reo Speedwagon, Foreigner, Blue Oyster Cult, The Charlie Daniels Band, The Outlaws, John Lee Hooker, and countless others. Two other albums were recorded under the Mercury Record label, Taste the Night (1979) and Band in Blue (1980). SWEET CHEEKS The first Duke Jupiter album (1978) was produced by Chuck Leavell, formerly of the Allman Brothers, who at the time had a band called Sea Level. Chuck found success when he became the keyboardist for the Rolling Stones, as well as the pianist on many projects, including Eric Clapton's Unplugged CD. Duke's first album has a southern influence mixed with a classy rock sound. Perhaps because it was recorded at Capricorn Studios in Macon, GA, it features members of the Allman Bros band and the Muscle Shoals horn section TASTE THE NIGHT Duke Jupiter's second album (1979) on Mercury Records was recorded in New York and produced by Glen Kolotkin. Glen Kolotkin's discography is a true who's who of the 60s and 70s, with artists such as: Santana, Janis Joplin, Journey, Barbara Streisand, and the list goes on. One of his most impressive projects is the final mix of Jimi Hendrix's Electric Lady Land album!
