Crispino e la comare (Crispino et la fée)

Description

Dating from the mid-19th century, this opera is one of the last examples of the traditional opera buffa. It quickly gained popularity: between 1854 and 1871 it was performed literally around the world - Constantinople, Barcelona, Malta, London, Cadiz, Rio de Janeiro, Paris, New York, Warsaw, New Orleans, Mexico City, Liège, Brussels, Lisbon, Buenos Aires, Vienna, Santiago de Chile, Baden Baden, Berlin, Calcutta and Melbourne. The main character enjoys one of the finest bass roles in 19th-century opera buffa, requiring equal abilities in operatic singing and acting.
