The San Diego Symphony Orchestra is one of the major orchestras in the United States. Led by its Music and Artistic Director, Rafael Payare, this orchestra is experiencing exponential artistic growth thanks to a renewed repertoire and the creation of a distinct sound. The recent renovation of the Jacobs Music Center – a concert hall and a leading architectural landmark – allows it to be appreciated in all its power, colors, and nuances. To launch this new collaboration with Delos, the musicians recorded (live at the Jacobs Music Center) the monumental Symphony No. 7 by Shostakovich. Known as the "Leningrad" because it was composed during the brutal siege of the city, the work is heavily marked emotionally and historically. This recording – the first in this new acoustic – promises a beautiful collaboration!
