The third album by the Californians Dipygus, on the Spanish label Memento Mori. Recorded in spring 2021, these seven new tracks were once again laid down at Darker Corners Studios in San Luis Obispo under the guidance of Alejandro Corredor and Matt Harvey. If you had already succumbed to the charms of the Californians’ primitive Death Metal, there is a strong chance it will be the same here. Two and a half years after the very good Bushmeat, Dipygus has lost none of its brilliance. Admittedly, the Americans are content to follow in their own footsteps, but that hardly matters since, among all these carefully collected samples, these infernal tropical jungle atmospheres and these creatures as menacing as they are strange, the Americans have something that belongs almost entirely to them. What’s more, although this is indeed an EP, this return to action is still rather generous, since it comes close to half an hour of playing time. In short, a winning comeback for the Californians, who are far from done delighting us with their primitive, animal Death Metal.
