Robert Doisneau is the most famous photographer in France and perhaps in the world. He was able to capture simple and natural moments that speak quite loudly to the sensitivity and culture of France, both of which are nostalgically connected to the past. Doisneau's photos constitute one of the very rare artistic universes that reconcile experts and the general public, being just as comfortable in art galleries as in posters, notebook covers, or planners in hypermarkets... and today on the covers of classical records, in a brand new collection from Sony Classical. To raise awareness more broadly about classical music, beyond the poster of the great repertoire and the mythical artists defending it, a first link of emotional closeness must be established, an attraction that does not necessarily go through rational criteria or prior knowledge of the subject. In classical music, the challenge is to move from respectful curiosity to desire, from a somewhat self-conscious restraint to action. This is the emotional mission assigned to the photos of Robert Doisneau, which illustrate, evoke, or slightly ironize... and are ultimately very comfortable defending the absolute masterpieces of the repertoire.
