18 May 2012: Death of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau (86 years old) In order to commemorate one of its flagship artists, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, who passed away at the age of 86 on May 18, Deutsche Grammophon has gathered in a double album his most memorable recordings. The first disc opens with the most beautiful lieder by Schubert with Gerald Moore on piano, followed by his legendary aria "Ich habe genug" by Bach, then a selection of opera arias in his most famous roles (Gluck, Mozart, Wagner, and Richard Strauss). The second disc brings together the mythical recording of Mahler's Rückert-Lieder with Karl Böhm and Schumann's Dichterliebe cycle with Jörg Demus, as well as a selection of rare recordings from the 50s and 60s. A collection in memory of a great interpreter, illustrating the multiple facets of his art.
