The Feminine Divine is the fifth album by Dexy, once again produced by Pete Schwier, with renowned session musician and producer Toby Chapman. After taking some time to refocus his energy, Kevin Rowland returned to music with a new perspective and newfound positivity. A personal record, if not strictly autobiographical, portraying a man whose opinions have evolved over time. Not just about women, but about the whole concept of masculinity with which he was raised: an education and unlearning that are traced throughout the arc of The Feminine Divine with a dizzying effect. With two tracks on the album featuring Goddess in the title in "My Goddess Is" and "Goddess Rules," it is not surprising that Kevin chose to use a painting inspired by Pele, the Hawaiian goddess of fire and volcanoes, for the artwork.
