Devendra Banhart

Ma

Description

Banhart’s first album since Ape in Pink Marble, released in 2016. Ma is overflowing with tenderness and autobiographical nods, and reflects the shift from the sonic experimentation of his previous albums to a complex and captivating story as well as emotional intimacy. Devendra favors organic sounds to accompany his voice and guitar, with arrangements enhanced by strings, woodwinds, brass, and keyboards. His first single, Kantori Ongaku, translated from Japanese as “country music,” is a nod to the legend of experimental pop Haruomi Hosono, founding member of the influential electronic group Yellow Magic Orchestra.
