Dervish is a renowned traditional Irish music group, originally from County Sligo and formed in 1989. Led by charismatic singer and multi-instrumentalist Cathy Jordan, the ensemble also includes accomplished musicians on flute, fiddle, guitar, accordion, and mandola, drawing deeply from the rich musical heritage of the northwest of Ireland. For over thirty years, they have become one of the most respected groups on the Irish music scene, recognized for their dynamic stage performances and a repertoire blending traditional Irish music with songs from contemporary Irish singer-songwriters. The BBC, which awarded them a lifetime achievement award in 2019, called Dervish an "icon of Irish music." The group has represented Ireland on prestigious stages, from Glastonbury to Rock in Rio. In 2019, they released "The Great Irish Songbook," an album of traditional Irish songs featuring artists such as Vince Gill, the SteelDrivers, Rhiannon Giddens, Steve Earle, David Gray, and many others. For their new album, *The Great Irish Songbook, Vol. 2 : Poets & Storytellers*, they have highlighted the works of great contemporary masters of Irish song, including Sinead O'Connor, Shane MacGowan, Van Morrison, Glen Hansard, and Moya Brennan. They have also surrounded themselves with a host of renowned guest artists, including Indigo Girls, Aoife O'Donovan, Iron & Wine, Sarah Jarosz, Sister Sadie, Madeleine Peyroux, the Del McCoury Band, Eddi Reader, as well as the aforementioned Glen Hansard and Moya Brennan.
