Description

The story plunges into a not-so-distant future, where technology has unsettlingly supplanted real life. Society has divided. Freedom is dead. The vast majority aligns with a faction called the M.A.S. – an organization that imposes severe penalties on anyone, at any time, for anything it deems unacceptable. Others have either been hunted down and killed or have quietly disappeared into oblivion. These few survivors – nicknamed "the LOTUS" (the Last with the Imperishable Spirit) – have fled society in an attempt to preserve their beliefs and survive. They have severed all ties with technology to disappear from the radar and have established secret, scattered hideouts around the world. The only way to find these refuges is through word of mouth or the appearance of an enigmatic symbol that only the LOTUS can recognize. After the M.A.S. raided her home, sixteen-year-old Hunter Woodson finds herself alone on a mission to preserve her family's history. Armed only with a wooden stick, Hunter must face this frightening new world and deliver a precious family legacy to another survivor. It may be her only chance to keep her people's heritage, honor her father's last wishes, and find a true refuge.
