From the cover to the lyrics, the legends of death metal, Deicide, have not yielded an inch of their uncompromising anti-church stance on their 1995 album "Once Upon the Cross." The album even contained samples from the film "The Last Temptation of Christ," itself accused of blasphemy. But the band was far from resting on its laurels: the breathtaking guitar prowess of Eric and Brian Hoffman and the furious onslaughts of bassist/vocalist Glen Benton and drummer Steve Asheim became ever more impressive, even miraculous. For its first large-scale vinyl release in the United States, "Once Upon the Cross" is available in a remastered milky transparent pressing, with blood splatters and a printed inner sleeve featuring the lyrics.
