For the first time in four years, the beloved and acclaimed band Deer Tick announces its, or rather their, new albums. Far from the conventional and the protocols, it is indeed two unreleased albums that will be released on September 15: Deer Tick Vol.1 & Deer Tick Vol.2, both recorded at Ardent Studios in Memphis. The two efforts complement each other with contrasting styles perfectly illustrating the two distinct musical personalities of Deer Tick - between reflective and calm and loud and boisterous. Deer Tick Vol.1 highlights the folk rock side of the band, always executed with a good dose of endurance that is their own. The leader John McCauley imposes a masterful, introspective, and omniscient songwriting, recounting internal struggles and external conflicts with the perfect blend of absolute sincerity and ironic wit. On Deer Tick Vol.2, the band lets loose with a good dose of garage rock inspired by punk. Smart lyrics, catchy hooks, and captivating melodies characterize Deer Tick Vol.2, notably thanks to the presence of bassist Christopher Ryan, who skillfully flirts between authority and attitude. The first track 'Don't Hurt', the nervous pop of 'Jumpstarting', and the raucous punk of 'It's a Whale' reveal the "Jekyll & Hyde" side of albums Vol.1 and Vol.2. Vol.2 concludes with the turbulent 'Mr Nothing Gets Worse', where the three singers share a verse together, a feat that would have even made The Replacements proud. Deer Tick is a unique case. Their ever-evolving career has never been confined to certain scenes or genres.
