We could go on at length about the story of this album, released in 1969 on Bethlehem, but perhaps it's best to let its producer speak. You've no doubt heard of him: the godfather of soul, James Brown! Here's what he wrote on the back cover: "Between my concerts, my one-off performances, my work with at-risk youth, and my involvement in tutoring programs, I find the time to get to Cincinnati to record. For three years, everyone had been telling me to check out the Dee Felice Trio. Last fall, my production director, Bud Hobgood, drove me between recording sessions to the Living Room Supper Club where the trio was playing. After listening to their first set, I knew I had to record an album of standards with them, and I didn't hesitate for a second to sign them on the spot." So, not only did the Dee Felice Trio back James Brown on his album "Gettin' Down to It" released in 1969 on King, but the Godfather also produced their album "In Heat" for Bethlehem. Let's let Mr. Brown speak again: "The music on this album is a true melting pot, whether you're a fan of soul, rock, blues, folk, or bossa nova; there's something for everyone, all on an underlying jazz rhythm." We have remastered "In Heat" for this reissue. As James says: "Put the record on the turntable, turn up the volume, and let yourself go!"
