Roméo et Juliette

Description

Legend of Siena, transfigured by Shakespeare, the Lovers of Verona also moved increasingly significant composers: Benda, Zingarelli, Bellini, Gounod, Berlioz, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev. This last triumvirate makes one forget Vaccal, Marchetti and Zandonai, prisoners of the Malibran! Thus “fights, turmoil, scenes of love” blend into a fortuitous coherence by the grace of dance taking precedence over an orchestral fury at the height of its post-Romantic splendor. A summary for aesthetes content to hear rather than see.
