For their first album 'Serenades & Damnation', DEAD CHIC continues to explore the markers that have defined the band's identity so far. From the very first notes, there’s no doubt, it’s DEAD CHIC: the cinematic flights, the vast spaces, the humidity, the ferocity, and the elegance: it’s dark and it’s chic. - - The ghost of Ennio Morricone still hovers over the tracks, shaken by fuzz, sonic explosions, and incantations. However, the band pushes the envelope even further and continues to explore unexpected horizons, drawing, in particular, from Latin culture to create armies of creeping percussion that one could imagine hearing on a night of procession during the Day of the Dead in Mexico. DEAD CHIC also looks eastward by inviting the Istanbul singer Tugçe Senogul on a track as languorous as it is epic, 'Mirage'. - - Listening to the 11 tracks, it is clear that this mix of influences is a leitmotif for the band, which draws from these sounds to create its own blend, its own codes, and seeks to emancipate itself from a well-digested Western rock heritage. - - The live recording at Black Box studio (a true temple of rock), captured by Peter Deimel, allows the fervor of the quartet to be conveyed.
