Although originally from Heidelberg, the band flirts with a Latin rhythm that is as sunny as it is languorous, accompanied by the voices of solo artists with a sybaritic timbre, some of whom are just passing through, evoking the oppressive tropical heat of exotic countries and perhaps the memory of having made your taste buds dance with a sparkling French drink in a summer café next to a dusty gramophone, eyes fixed on the slow movements of a ceiling fan's blades. The swaying tracks of De-Phazz activate all these clichés. The atmosphere on "Jelly Banquet," the 17th studio album by De-Phazz, with which the band celebrates its 25th anniversary, is joyful and relaxed. Pit Baumgartner, founder and leader of De-Phazz, agrees with Quincy Jones: "If you bring together, you can only win what doesn't go together." He mixes rock hits with church choirs and alpine horns with ethnojazz, sprinkled with new sounds of retro sonic bursts, thus making the extraordinary voices shine even more. Alongside familiar faces such as Pat Appleton, Karl Frierson, Barbara Lahr, and Sandie Wollasch, Carol Schule, blues rock icon Inga Rumpf, and David Thomas (Père Ubu) are also invited.
