The art and achievements of violinist David Oistrakh are richly documented by this 61-disc box set (58 CDs and 3 DVDs): Discover for the first time the complete collection of his Warner Classics recordings (Columbia and HMV), remastered in High Definition from the original sources, and supplemented by a multitude of rare audio and video recordings, including a number of world premiere recordings. These treasures were unearthed by Bruno Monsaingeon, a recognized Oistrakh specialist and director of the documentary David Oistrakh : Artiste du peuple ?, which completes this revealing collection. The release of this box set coincides with the 50th anniversary of the death of David Oistrakh, one of the greatest violinists of the 20th century, if not of all time, who died while on tour in Amsterdam on October 24, 1974.
